Language policy at the University of the Balearic Islands is governed by the institution's Language Use Regulations and Language Plan. The UIB's main goals in this area are:

  • Promoting Catalan across all university areas
  • Promoting multilingualism amongst the university community
  • Welcoming overseas students visiting the UIB.

Our aim is to guarantee linguistic transparency and security.

Download the Language Policy information sheet to find out about everything we do, and take part in good language practices.

The UIB offers the entire university community, including exchange students, a range of resources to facilitate the learning of Catalan. These resources include the Language Exchange programme, aimed at local students and mobility students at the UIB, and various courses and activities aimed at newly arrived teachers and researchers (PDI).

The UIB's Language Policy also aims to ensure that the language used in the classroom is the language that appears in your teaching guide. Contact us in case you have any doubts about which languages should be used in each area of the University.
